HEY!!! STOP! You’re High jacking too much of our RIGHTS: Merry Christmas

It was with so much shock that I was learning something new about North America and actually I was quite upset and don’t want to give a laugh to that. I’m doing Social Development and Social Welfare dedicating my life to live for the less privileged. Not only is it a matter of providing welfare to the less privileged, but also working towards changing the structure that perpetuates exploitation, oppression, discrimination and any kind of social injustice. Among some of the few things I’m already doing include: working with the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) where we promote issues around gender equality, fair trade, refugee education and so forth. I am translating and helping fellow immigrants in North Bay through the North Bay District Multicultural Centre to defend and promote rights of immigrants and I am writing on the war in the great lakes region of Africa and how it has sent many into exile...I’m also thinking of paying a little more attention to the situation of natives people in North America, Canada particularly. So already, I am trying to do something for my career. It brings less money, but so much rewards. It makes me rich with too much joy and happiness…
So far there is quite a huge progress in pursuit of social justice where we do not have much of gender inequality (I have had most of my bosses female and Nipissing University is full of girls over boys), racism (Obama’s election need not to be overemphasized on that topic), child abuse (many kids know how to dial the police number on that…). So we can see that there is much progress. However, this progress is being extended to a point where I am beginning to suspect its purpose. A human right should be claimed to recognize the presence of all human beings, but if this recognition is purposed at ignoring other human beings, then that right should be questioned.
There are a lot to say on this, but let’s touch the topic of the season. There have been proposals and actually those proposals have been put in place in some quarters: banning the say “Merry Christmas”. This is just one of the many things that the world is doing nowadays to deprive Christians from enjoying their rights of being Christians. Christmas is one if not the most important days of the Christian faith and as many will oppose this, but the fact remains 25th December whether is the very right day or not, but it’s there to serve the celebration of having had Jesus Christ born on earth. We accept the opinion of those who do not want to celebrate Christmas because Christianity is one of the few if not the only religion that do not use force to convince others.
However, banning the saying Merry Christmas is without doubt taking out the name Christ out of Christmas. People have gone on holiday prior to 25th December yet we cannot see so much of the word Christmas in our stores or on the TV. It has donned on a new name ‘Holiday’. Some of us are not really for holidays such as ‘Halloween’ because it has background that does not fit with our faith. But never did we stand on the podium and stop others from saying Happy Halloween Day! Beloved friends, companions, brothers and sisters may this quest for political correctness or right not purpose at abolishing Christianity. If others are not for Christmas may they stop taking a holiday on this day and leave us celebrate our wonderful day in the history of our faith. But if everyone is gone on holiday on 25th December they invite me to wish them
