We'll understand it better by and by: What a JOY that will be

So this evening me, my wife and our wonderful friend Audace journeyed through our random bible expeditions which have become our new thing when we might and it’s something I’ve come to treasure a lot than the old ‘turn on the movie’ thing…

Today we discussed The Rapture, Tribulation, Thousand Years, Heaven and the Godhead… We stayed around Revelations chapters 20 and 21, with Matthew 24 and 25… We raised questions on;

What exactly this will rapture will be? Which Christians are to be taken through the (first) rapture?  Will the thousand years be on earth?

We went through this for almost four hours so I would not want to stay up explaining what we debated, but after such an intense yet beautiful discussion of agreements, disagreements, wondering, doubts, revelations I was left thinking about many many things… One thing we all agreed on is our desire to get to heaven that day and be able to understand all these mysteries.

I am always the one who’d want to know even if I know I might not be able to know some things whilst in this sinful self, my wife is the one who’d go for what matters the most. She emphasized through the discussion that what matters the most is for us to strive to go to heaven and it won’t matter when and how. I might have ignored that statement at that time for the sake of not wanting to prematurely conclude our 'biblical expedition', but inwardly I strongly agreed. I decided to look at the positive part of our struggles to understand all these things. I marveled at the beauty of the realization that we shall understand better that day and what joy that will be. I am going to bed with so much joy and comfort that I will meet the loved ones again. We will have the opportunity to enjoy looking back on our life on earth and I could only think of one song…

We are tossed and driven
on the restless sea of time;
somber skies and howling tempests
oft succeed a bright sunshine;
in that land of perfect day,
when the mists are rolled away,
we will understand it better by and by.

By and by, when the morning comes,
when the saints of God are gathered home,
we'll tell the story how we've overcome,
for we'll understand it better by and by.

We are often destitute
of the things that life demands,
want of food and want of shelter,
thirsty hills and barren lands;
we are trusting in the Lord,
and according to God's word,
we will understand it better by and by.

Trials dark on every hand,
and we cannot understand
all the ways of God would lead us
to that blessed promised land;
but he guides us with his eye,
and we'll follow till we die,
for we'll understand it better by and by.

Temptations, hidden snares
often take us unawares,
and our hearts are made to bleed
for a thoughtless word or deed;
and we wonder why the test
when we try to do our best,
but we'll understand it better by and by.

I want to get there, I want to join the group of those who will be looking back at life with a smile... When the saints go marching in, I want to be among the number...
